Mersin İdmanyurdu took place in Group B in Second League 1987–88 Season. Starting from this season three points for a win rule is adopted. The League was played in three groups, two with 17 teams each and one with 18. Bottom three teams relegated to Third League, whereas top teams promoted to First League at the end of the season.[1] MİY finished 11th with 11 wins and 37 goals.
